National Grid Selects RISE Engineering to Expand Efficiency Offerings for Small Businesses

CRANSTON, R.I., September 25, 2013 – Small business electric customers of National Grid will have expanded access to energy efficiency services under the terms of a contract award announced today by RISE Engineering, a division of Thielsch Engineering, Inc. of Cranston, R.I. Over $70 million in new electrical efficiency improvements are expected to be installed over the next two years through the National Grid small business initiatives administered by RISE.

RISE has been retained by National Grid to continue its delivery of “turnkey” direct installation efficiency services in Rhode Island and in the Albany/Saratoga regions of upstate New York. This program offers incentives to small business customers to cover up to 70% of the cost of on‐ site energy assessments and one‐stop arrangements to complete the installation of recommended improvements. Over $78 million in lighting and other electric efficiency improvements have been installed by RISE for National Grid small business customers over the past four years in RI and upstate NY, and an additional $50 million will be offered over the next two years.

In addition to continued delivery of the turnkey service, RISE has also been designated by National Grid to initiate two new complementary offerings. Eligible customers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will soon be afforded to the option of using a contractor of their own choosing to install eligible efficiency improvements while still accessing the 70% incentive to help defray most of the upfront cost. RISE will provide support to customers and independent contractors to assist them in qualifying their projects; RISE staff will perform quality assurance inspections and follow‐up to assure customer satisfaction and effective installations. Over $17 million in improvements are expected to be completed over the next two years.

RISE has also been chosen to offer Rhode Island customers a new “comprehensive” program element which expands the range of technologies that can qualify for 70% program incentives. Through this service, offerings of up to $5 million in electrical efficiency upgrades to HVAC systems, motors and motor controls, insulation, and other building systems, will be administered by RISE.

“We have been privileged to work in close concert with National Grid for over twenty years to deliver small business services that are recognized nationally as exemplary initiatives,” said Vincent R. Graziano, president of RISE. “Our selection to assist National Grid in expanding these programs to include a broader base of contractors and to achieve deeper electrical efficiency savings builds on our mutual efforts to bring world‐class solutions to small business customers,” Graziano said.

About the National Grid Small Business Program

In addition to on‐site energy assessments and direct assistance in arranging the installation of lighting, refrigeration, and other electrical efficiency improvements, the program offers incentives that cover up to 70% of the installed cost of eligible improvements, along with an on‐bill financing option to allow qualified participants to pay their share of the project cost interest‐free with their electric bill.
