Our Multifamily Services

Maximizing energy efficiency and comfort for owners and tenants alike

RISE is the largest multifamily services provider for electric and gas utilities in New England and New York. Every year, we provide energy assessments and upgrades in over 25,000 units in multifamily facilities with five or more residential dwelling units, including apartments and condominiums. By lowering operating costs and improving occupant comfort, energy upgrades to residentially and/or commercially metered dwelling units and common areas can enhance property values, increase tenant satisfaction and reduce vacancy rates.

Key components of multifamily energy programs

  • A no-cost energy assessment that identifies energy-efficiency opportunities, expected costs and projected savings.
  • Financial incentives and rebates that often cover most of the project costs. Some upgrades may be offered at no cost.
  • Assistance arranging installation of selected energy-efficiency measures.
  • Post-install follow up and warranties to ensure customer satisfaction.

Energy assessment process

Energy assessments are conducted onsite (at no cost to the owner or tenant) by professional energy specialists. They use a “whole building” approach to examine the facility's thermal envelope, lighting, cooling, heating, and water heating systems for energy-saving opportunities while noting any safety concerns with those systems.

Potential improvements deemed cost-effective are subsequently presented to the building owner, property manager or condominium association. This formal proposal also includes the estimated project costs, available incentives, rebates, and financing options, and the projected energy savings and payback time for the customer's portion of the bill.

Professional installation

As the utility service provider's assigned contractor, RISE offers the assurance of expert installation and the convenience of comprehensive service. Installation of the selected upgrades is provided by qualified, fully insured workmen with minimal disruption to building occupants' routines. Whether these services are fulfilled directly by RISE personnel or by subcontractors under RISE's direction, RISE processes the program incentives, and all invoicing is centralized through RISE after the work is completed to the customer's satisfaction.

In its role as the Mass Save® Multifamily Market Integrator, RISE supports all participating electric and natural gas utility service providers in Massachusetts. In this capacity, we have staff members solely dedicated to answering questions, screening requests for building energy assessments and, for eligible customers, assigning the assessment to their service provider's designated program contractor.

RISE is a Multifamily Retrofit Program Contractor in Massachusetts for the Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid and Unitil. We also play a similar role for National Grid in Rhode Island and are a New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) Multifamily Performance Partner.
